MANU BIOSPHERE RESERVE MANU NATIONAL PARKManu National Park is one of the most important tropical areas in the world, located in the south eastern region of Peru between Cusco and Madre de Dios departments. In 1977 was declared by the UNESCO as Biosphere Reserve and in 1987 recognized as World Inheritance. Manu Biosphere Reserve has an immense biodiversity, with 16 different ecosystems from the Puna (Ichu Grassland) to the Lowland Forest, is possible to find different ethnic groups still without contact conserving the traditional lifestyle. At the same time is the habitat of many endangerous species, as the Giant Otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), Black Caimans (Melanosuchus Niger) and the Cock of the Rock (Rupicula peruviana); host more than 1000 bird species, 13 species of monkeys and the 10% of the existent plants of the planet. Manu National Park is for sure one of the most important lungs of the world. MANU 6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTSDAY 1. - Early in the morning we leave from Cusco in our comfortable private bus, will go across the mountains passing over more than 3900 m.a.s.l. On the way will make a stop to visit the pre Incas tombs, known as “Chullpas de Ninamarca”. Then will continue until Paucartambo (a tipical colonial town). We continue and then we are going to reach Acjanacco pass, a nice overview in the entrance of the Manu National Park, the point between the Andes and the jungle. DAY 2. - Early wake up in order to take breakfast will continue in our bus to Atalaya port (700 m.a.s.l) on the Alto Madre de Dios River where our engine canoe waits for us. In our trip on the Madre de Dios river will have a chance to see the Avifauna River as egrets, herons, hawks, and vultures soaring in the sky, on the way will make a stop in the curative spring waters, arriving in the afternoon to Yanayaco lodge where we will spend the night We will have a nocturnal chance to visit a Mammals clay lick where is possible to observe the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) know for locals as “Sachavaca”. DAY 3. - With the first sunrise will continue our trip to “Blanquillo” private reserve; during our journey we can spot on the river banks several species of birds and mammals. In the way we will make a stop in the town of Boca Manu, to rest and make the last purchases. After two hours we will be arriving to camp in a beautiful sandy beach. In the afternoon we will visit a cocha (Oxbow Lake) with many chances to see the Giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis). After to say good bye to our friends who are flying back, will start our trip back toward Amazon Lodge where we will spend our last night in the jungle in a comfortable installation, and after a short rest we take a trail system of the lodge recognising different types of forest. DAY 6. - Wake up with the first light to see a parrots clay lick, where is possible to observe a big quantity of parrots, parakeets and some species of macaws as the chestnut fronted macaw, they need to eat the minerals of the clay in order to neutralized the toxins of the very green seeds they feed, After breakfast will continue to Atalaya port where the bus wait for us to return to Cusco.
