MANU BIOSPHERE RESERVE MANU NATIONAL PARKManu National Park is one of the most important tropical areas in the world, located in the south eastern region of Peru between Cusco and Madre de Dios departments. In 1977 was declared by the UNESCO as Biosphere Reserve and in 1987 recognized as World Inheritance. Manu Biosphere Reserve has an immense biodiversity, with 16 different ecosystems from the Puna (Ichu Grassland) to the Lowland Forest, is possible to find different ethnic groups still without contact conserving the traditional lifestyle.
DAY 1. - Early in the morning we leave Cusco in our comfortable private bus, will go across the mountains passing over more than 3900 m.a.s.l. On the way will make a stop to visit the pre Incas tombs, known as “Chullpas de Ninamarca”. Then will continue until Paucartambo (a typical colonial town). Continuing we are going to reach Acjanaco pass, a nice overview in the entrance of the Manu DAY 2.- Early wake up in order to take breakfast, and after that will continue in our bus visiting in the way some coca plantation of the local people until Atalaya port (700 m.a.s.l.) this port located on the Alto Madre de Dios river is the place where we board our motor boat. In our trip on the Madre de Dios River we will have the chance to see Beautiful Amazon view and many birds, after 40 minutes we will arrive to Amazon Lodge, where we will spend one night in comfortable installations, and after a short rest we take a trail system of the lodge recognising different types of forest. DAY 3. - With the first sunrise will continue our trip to “Blanquillo” private reserve; during our journey we can spot on the river banks several species of birds and mammals. In the way we will make a stop in the town of Boca Manu, to rest and make the last purchases. (Optional fly from Cusco to Boca manu this means some people may join our trip and continue). After two hours we will be arriving to camp in a beautiful sandy beach. In the afternoon we will visit a cocha (Oxbow Lake) with many chances to see the Giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis). DAY 4.- Before breakfast will take a camouflaged floating Blind (catamaran) to observe, The Macaws activities in the clay lick, they need to eat the minerals of the clay in order to neutralized the toxins of the very green seeds they feed, is possible to see different parrots species. After this wonderful experience We will continue upstream in our motor boat until Boca Manu town to spend the night in a comfortable lodge, a nocturnal walk to “Isla de los Valles” in order to see caimans and piranhas. DAY 5. - This day we will wake up very early. We board our canoe and continue by the Manu River to Salvador Lake where we will spend the next two nights. Before to enter to the Reserve Zone we will pass first the official tourist at Limonal and check us by the Park Rangers to enter to the Reserve. On the way we will have the option to observe quite a few varieties of Flora and Fauna, many species of birds, mammals on the beach After dinner we will start a nocturnal walk in order to see the Black Caiman in Salvador Lake, we will take the catamaran to have more option. DAY 6. - In the morning at first sun light we will start a walk for 4 hours inside of the jungle. We will cross the river to walk to another lake on the way we will have more option to see wildlife different types of trees and many species of birds, and well as explore the forest trails to try and spot some monkeys, peccaries, mammals and plants, with luck the jaguar, we will get Otorongo Lake, in this place we take a tower rises 15 meters above the Lake, this permit us to have more option to see the Giant Otter, and also after this activity we can use a catamaran to observe black caimans. Then we return to the camp side. DAY 7.- We wake up early and after breakfast we will start our trip back to Aguas Calientes (optional fly back to Cusco) arriving in the afternoon to the hot springs to enjoy this curative water. Overnight at the campsite DAY 8. - Wake up with the first light to see a parrots clay lick where is possible to observe a big amount of them eating the nutrients of this wall in order to regulate their metabolism. After return to the campsite for breakfast, will continue to Atalaya port where the bus is waiting for us to return to Cusco Arriving at night. END OF SERVICES. ITYNERARY
